Boat Neck Cardigan

This project took forever. It's fairly large - probably big enough for a 2 year old - and uses a fine sock yarn. The pattern isn't very clear, but I'm pleased with the final result.

This is a vintage pattern, circa 1949. It's quite tiny (more of a shirt than a dress), but very cute.

Here's a recent project (see ravelry for alternate color variations. It works up quickly. I had some trouble getting the sizing exactly right in pairs - counting the border rows for consistency is important.

Inspired by a bib my great-grandmother made, this is a simple pattern suitable for a range of yarns. My original post with pictures of the process is posted here.
Materials needed
• 50 grams sport weight thread
• Crochet hook: 5.00 mm
• Yarn needle
• Small button
Gauge
In pattern, 21 sc and 26 rows = 4 inches
Changes in pattern = small medium, large
Directions
Ch 67. Ch 1, turn.
R1: Sc in second ch from hook (66 sc). Ch 1, turn.
R2: Sc in first 14 sc, 2 sc in next sc, (sc in next 11 st, 2 sc in next sc) 3 times, sc in next 15 st (70 sc). Ch 1, turn.
R3-5: Sc in each sc across, working 2 sc in second sc of each 2-sc group. At end of row 5, fasten off.
R6: Skip first 18 sc of previous row, attaching yarn in 2 sc of first 2-sc group. Sc in each sc across, working 2 sc in second sc of each 2-sc group, to final 2-sc group. Work 1 sc in first sc of final 2-sc group (46 sc). Ch 1, turn.
R7: Dec sc over first two sc. Sc in each sc across, working 2 sc in second sc of each 2-sc group. Work dec sc over final two sc (46 sc). Ch 1, turn.
R8-21: repeat row 7. At end of row 21, fasten off.
R22: Skip first 9 sc of previous row, attaching yarn in 2 sc of first 2-sc group. Sc in each sc across to final 2-sc group. Work 1 sc in first sc of final 2-sc group. Ch 1, turn.
R23-25: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. At end of row 25, fasten off.
Border option 1:
Work around the entire outer edge in the following pat:
(sc, skip 1 st, 3 dc in next stitch, skip 1 st). Repeat. Work 4-chain loop on one edge for button loop.
Border option 2:
Sc around the entire outer edge in contrasting colors. Work 4-chain loop on one edge for button loop.
Finishing:
Sew bottom on edge without button loop. Weave in loose ends.
